That being said, it actually sounded better than I expected. It can put out decent volume and while the bass is understandably a bit thin, music is perfectly listenable so long as you don’t try to crank it up. It won’t replace your home stereo, but for a compact portable that would be sitting on a table beside you, it does fine. And if you leave it attached to the battery base (and don’t use that battery to top up smartphones) it has enough power to run for 72 hours. Three days…

Under the scheme, launched in late October, 40,000 households can access grants of up to $6000 to help pay for a home battery system, and shift to more affordable and reliable energy sources.

They’re doing more for a number of reasons. Perhaps the biggest is as states and utilities shift away from net metering, solar customers are getting less credit for selling power back to the grid. Combining a hybrid inverter with even a small amount of battery backup can allow homeowners to self-supply power, avoid demand charges and peak time-of-use rates and still get high value for solar systems despite shifting state policies.

Figure 6 shows a simplified drawing of a transducer with its package removed. For test purposes, an additional coil is wound on the ASIC PCB concentrically with the secondary circuit. This is useful for a system test: a current passed through it will give a transducer output in the same turns ratio as the measured current difference between the primaries.

There’s something to be said for multipurpose devices—one of the reasons tablets have done so well—but sometimes manufacturers get a little carried away. Is the combination genius, or an example of taking this all-in-one thing a little too far?

The biggest problem: The cars remain expensive. Nexo, for instance, is the most expensive Hyundai on sale in the U.S., with a starting price of $59,345 (starting prices for the brand’s comparably-sized Santa Fe start at $24,250). The Toyota Mirai and Honda Clarity fuel cell models have a similar MSRP in the $59,000 range. These car purchases are eligible for government rebates — in California there is a $5,000 tax rebate available.

No matter what, it’s unclear when flow battery-powered vehicles might come to market. Cushman says he hopes to test the technology in cars in the next three years. Cronin expects to spend up to 18 months testing out the electrolyte his team developed.

The range of those trucks depends on battery capacity – up to 300 km (186 miles) in case of FL, and up to 200 km (124 miles) in case of FE.

And because he produces more energy than he uses, he benefits financially. The Solar Renewable Energy Certificates program is currently paying him about $330 for every 1,000-kilowatt hour of energy he produces. He’s on track to earn more than $6,000 through the program this year.

Depending on the illumination intensity of the PV cells, the load which maximizes the power transferred from them varies, and so the control system uses a real-time MPPT algorithm to load the cells for maximum power transfer. In the case of motorized PV panels, the MPPT algorithm can also be used to obtain the optimum orientation. Since the target of the algorithm is simply to find the peak in the power transfer, the accuracy requirement on the current transducer used is not demanding, and a simple open-loop transducer is ideal for this purpose.
