Apex Microtechnology’s SA110 (Fig. 4) is a fully integrated half-bridge SiC power module. It provides up to 20-A continuous output and can operate at over 250-kHz speeds. Its protection features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and active Miller clamping.

The shares of both JinkoSolar Holding Co. Ltd. and Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited are owned by institutional investors at 20.7% and 67.5% respectively. About 1% of JinkoSolar Holding Co. Ltd.’s share are held by insiders. Comparatively, 18.5% are Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited’s share held by insiders.

Energy storage is a key sector for Ingeteam, where the company is positioning itself for the considerable development expected in the short and medium term for systems of this type, both at a residential level and also on a large scale. In fact, Ingeteam is marketing its battery converters for both segments and, in 2018, the company supplied this equipment primarily for hybrid systems that combine PV generation with energy storage. Sales were principally made to countries such as the United States, Spain, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

If not considered at the system level, this represents a serious safety hazard.

Such hydro hybrid systems already exist with land-based photovoltaic power plants. The biggest, of course, is in China. The solar array does the heavy lifting during peak daylight hours, with the hydro generators doing more of the work at other times.

That flexibility can be very helpful as new renewable energy requirements and policies take effect in different states, like the mandate of solar on all new homes in California. Homebuilders can install energy storage to reduce the amount of PV they must install or offset other efficiency requirements. If builders choose to just install solar and not storage on a new home, using a battery-ready inverter for the project can give homeowners the flexibility to add a battery at a later date.
