In addition to public companies like Sungrow and Kyocera, a bunch of private companies are also developing floating solar farm technology. Probably one of the leaders is a French firm called Ciel & Terre that was founded in 2006. However, since 2011, the company has gone all-in with floating solar systems. Its flagship system is Hydrelio, which it claims is the first “specific and industrialized system to make solar panels float on water.” The company’s U.S. headquarters is in Petaluma, California, and it recently completed floating solar farms in both Colorado and California. The company is now developing a more robust system that can handle tougher applications such as hydroelectric dams and even offshore projects.

These goggles have a couple of advantages – chief among which, the fact they don’t throw any light into the environment, ruining your stealthy silhouette – but they also have a drawback. They do tend to eat battery power faster than the simple flashlight, so you’ll need to pump that charger more frequently if you favour the goggles over the flashlight.

I’m a truck fan myself, there’s a start up company, Atlis Motor Vehicles, developing a 100% electric, full sized pickup with 4×4. Good on Wagner for making these changes. All of his trade-offs seem to be worth the rewards (including keeping more money in his pockets). Hopefully we can all make similar changes and make a bigger impact in reducing emissions.

Shortly before it rocked the PV world, statistics from China showed that at 9.65 GW, Q1 installations were up significantly on 2016 and 2017, which saw new capacities of 7.14 and 7.2 GW, respectively. Confirming predictions that installs would veer away from utility-scale, which until now had been the dominant sector, the quarter saw a massive increase in DG: 1.97 GW versus 7.68 GW. In percentage terms, this represented an overall increase of 22% YoY, while utility saw a 64% decrease, and DG a massive 217% increase.
