Hydrogen power has been on the market for years but in an extremely limited capacity. There are currently 39 public hydrogen fueling stations in California (with another 25 in development), along with a couple in Hawaii. Now the East Coast is getting its own infrastructure. A handful of stations are up and running, and more are in the works in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Now help may be on the horizon. Scientists are working to develop refillable, or so-called flow, batteries that can be refueled in minutes at a vast network of converted gas stations. It’s a shift that could make electric vehicles (EVs) more attractive to drivers who are wary of long charging times.

The solar pilot at Barcadera was installed by Dutch company Oskomera Solar Power Solutions. WEB works with the Dutch grid operator Stedin for optimal use of the solar supply on Bonaire.

“There are a lot of inverter vendors so there’s not one place to go hack into and get access to all the inverters on part of the grid,” McGranaghan told Bloomberg Environment. “So some of those issues are maybe a little bit of a stretch to be a concern right this minute.”

According to the National Fire Protection Association, alternative-fueled vehicles, a category that includes both hydrogen fuel cell and battery-powered electric, are not more hazardous than traditional internal combustion engines. The NFPA’s statistics reveal that approximately every 3 minutes there is a car fire in the U.S. from an internal combustion engine vehicle.

None of these hybrid inverters provide power from your panels when the grid goes down…..they just use what’s stored in your battery for a few hours then you’re done until the grid comes back up.
