Two of the industry’s biggest inverter players also locked horns this month when SolarEdge filed a lawsuit against Huawei, alleging that the latter’s residential inverters use an architecture, which violates its patents. Huawei said it was “evaluating the claims”, however it does not believe it infringed any valid patent rights.

This level of excellence brings us to the return from governmental subsidies for EVs. Growing up in LA when the air was nearly as bad as Beijing’s is today is enough to make me support no emission vehicle incentives. However, I worry about our economy as much as our environment. Subsidizing 200,000 Teslas in order to drive an entire industry forward and move a U.S. brand to the peak of the global car market is the sort of smart industrial policy that our global competitors have been using to beat us in trade for decades. That @$1.5 billion was a far better investment than the $81 billion we put into the GM bailout loan. When I travel abroad Teslas are the cars foreigners say they aspire to. There is no German translation for, “I want a Cadillac.” Teslas are sweeping Audis and Mercedes aside from Europe, creating American manufacturing jobs and helping our trade imbalance. Teslas made up half of the few U.S. cars I counted in Tokyo during a visit last month.

A lot of people in rural areas take advantage of this because they either don’t want to deal with the electric company or have no incentive to deal with it, so they use that to push as much power as they can to the house.

The H5000/H5001 hybrid inverter has been optimized through firmware to increase output and overload power. The continuous power output to the load is now 7 kW when the grid is present and 5.5 kW when the grid is absent. The H5000/H5001 can now also handle overloads for 240 V of 9.6 kW for 20s when the grid is present.

No “live” LV electrical work will be undertaken by unlicensed participants, thus no electrical licensing prerequisite. All practical system training will be done on ELV (<120Vdc and <50Vac) systems and pre-wired LV systems for non-electricians. Students will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to design off-grid or on-grid “hybrid” system to customer requirements.

“The battery is fantastic, a great project,” Lloyd says, facing out onto the brilliant green turf. It’s a chilly day, but his pride for the club’s efforts still radiates brighter than his jacket. “What it means is we can run our floodlights, our grow lights, and we can always make sure that when we’re using those big consumers, that we’re getting that at the best price.”
