The system combines 300 kW of ground-mounted solar, a 127-kW natural gas generator, a 250-kW, 1,050-MWh lithium ion battery and a 250-kW load bank. In early 2019, the microgrid will be expanded to include additional Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies and electric vehicle chargers.

The ASIC is designed for minimum offset, and the offset referred back to the input current is reduced by placing a hole in the PCB under the ASIC to provide the smallest possible air gap in the magnetic circuit. Because of the transducer´s high sensitivity, a magnetic shield (not shown in figure 4, for clarity) is placed around the ASIC and air gap within the device.

“[Customers] will set the system up so that should they get close to getting that kind of demand on, the system will kick in and ease that demand, meet that demand using battery power or solar power, to prevent that demand charge from being applied to their bill,” Niles said.

Floating solar farms have some distinct advantages, such as improved energy yield thanks to the cooling effects of water and the decreased presence of dust. (The cooling effects of the sea is one reason why Microsoft is testing the concept of submerged data centers.) The irony that can’t be passed over is that the Emirates Stadium is named so because Emirates Airlines — a subsidiary of the Emirates Group, an arm of the Dubai government’s investment corporation — paid for the naming rights. (The airline also pays to have its logo on the front of Arsenal’s shirts.) Oil revenue fueled growth of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, but the vast majority of its revenue today doesn’t come from oil. Even a region built on oil revenue is looking to the future.

The ChargeTech PS120K packs multiple batteries for a total capacity of 124,800 mAh (462 Wh), which is enough to charge a typical 13.3-inch laptop for 10 times, or Apple’s iPhone XR 47 times. Obviously, the product can do much more than that. It has two 110-120 Volt AC power outlets that can deliver up to 300 W each, three DC 9-12V/5A power outlets, a cigarette lighter port, three USB Type-A ports, and a USB Type-C port supporting 60 W power delivery (see exact specs in the table below). It requires its own special power supply to charge it, which is not built in to the device.
