China-made on-board charger (OBC) is priced at RMB1,000-4,500/unit for the moment. The larger power it is, the higher price will be. OBC falls into three types by power: <2.5KW, 3-5KW (mostly 3.3KW), and >6KW, respectively for EVs with battery capacity less than 15kWh, 15-24kWh electric passenger cars and small logistics vehicles, and 24kWh-above electric commercial vehicles and logistics vehicles. Market price of 6.6KW charger stands at RMB3,500-4,500, 3.3KW at RMB1,500-2,000 and 2KW at around RMB1,000. Large power OBC is growing a trend as individual users and ride-hailing firms require far shorter charging time. 6.6KW OBC will win popularity; 10KW-23KW large power ones will find wider application. The National Weather Service in Detroit says sustained winds from 30 to 40 mph, along with gusts of 50 mph are likely for much of the day Sunday. Brief intervals with gusts up to 60 mph also are possible. The highest winds will be during late morning through late afternoon, according to the forecast.

But is this still a cause for concern with newer phone models and security software updates? Chris Hoffman from How-To Geek reports that current iPhones and Android phones usually require your permission to share data so the risk is minimal. He explains that with an iPhone “you’re safe unless the charger attacks your phone through an unknown security hole.” Apple’s USB Restricted Mode, a recent security update, gives extra protection to iPhones and iPads by shutting off access to data on devices when charging via the Lightning port. He warns, however, that there are slightly bigger risks with Android models.

It shouldn’t be surprising to learn that the first floating photovoltaic system was built in population-dense Japan in 2007, according to a report by the World Bank. The United States was an early adopter, with the first commercial installation atop a reservoir near a California winery in 2008. (Apparently, the vintner believed the land could be better used to grow more grapes for overpriced Merlot.) Of course, it didn’t take long for China to get into the act, finding yet another way to kick America’s ass in tech to become the leader in the floating solar PV industry.

Virtually all commercially available GaN power semiconductors are now lateral devices that can’t handle over about 600 V. New research is focused on producing a vertical GaN structure that’s better for medium- and high-power applications. These are devices where the current, instead of flowing through the surface of the semiconductor, flows through the wafer, across the semiconductor.  

A key semiconductor characteristic is bandgap that indicates the amount of energy required to jolt an electron into a conducting state. A wide bandgap (WBG) enables higher-power, higher switching-speed transistors. Honda and Toyota have teamed up with a subsidiary of Shell Oil to build new hydrogen fueling stations in California. Two have been built thus far, and five are in the works, Kumaratne said. The company is advocating for stations in the Northeastern United States, with several in development. "Partnering with other hydrogen fuel cell manufacturers and industry influencers makes sense. We all have skin in the game," she said.
